Prisoner Swap Between US, Russia, and Other Countries Underway
Large-Scale Swap Expected to Include Americans, Including Brittney Griner
Multicountry Swap Frees WSJ Reporter Evan Gershkovich
A prisoner swap was underway between the United States, Russia, and other countries on Thursday, according to a senior Biden administration official. The swap is expected to be large-scale and include a number of Americans, including WNBA star Brittney Griner, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.
A multicountry prisoner swap in Turkey on Thursday freed The Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and at least one other American held in Russia along with Griner. Notably, American Paul Whelan was left out of the swap, despite having been held in Russia for nearly four years.
