Matthew Judon: From Underrated Recruit to NFL Star
Early Life and High School Career
Matthew Judon was born on August 15, 1992, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Despite being a standout football player in high school, his size (6'3", 225 lbs at the time) hindered him from receiving major collegiate scholarship offers.
Judon attended Grand Valley State University, an NCAA Division II school. He quickly made an impact, earning All-American honors twice and setting school records for sacks and tackles for loss.
College Career
In college, Judon honed his skills and developed into a dominant pass rusher. He finished his career at Grand Valley State with 26.5 sacks and 51 tackles for loss.
Judon's impressive college performance attracted the attention of NFL scouts. He was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.
NFL Career
Judon quickly established himself as a force on the Ravens' defense. In his rookie season, he recorded 8 sacks and 41 tackles. He has continued to produce at a high level, earning Pro Bowl selections in 2019 and 2021.
In 2022, Judon joined the New England Patriots as a free agent. He is expected to play a key role in the Patriots' defense in the upcoming season.
