Marseille Dominate Clermont in Ligue 1 Clash
Olympique de Marseille secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Clermont Foot 63 in their Ligue 1 encounter at the Stade Velodrome on Wednesday.
Marseille, who entered the match in third place in the standings, started the game brightly and took the lead in the 12th minute through Cengiz Under.
The Turkish winger latched onto a long ball from Valentin Rongier and drove into the Clermont penalty area before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Arthur Desmas.
Marseille continued to dominate the match and doubled their lead in the 27th minute through Amine Harit.
The Moroccan midfielder received a pass from Dimitri Payet on the edge of the area and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.
Clermont struggled to create any meaningful chances in the first half, and Marseille went into the break with a commanding 2-0 lead.
The second half was a more even affair, but Marseille remained in control of the game and saw out the victory comfortably.
The win sees Marseille move up to second place in the Ligue 1 standings, level on points with leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
